Hawa Travert

Not much is known about Hawa Travert's origins or if that is even his real name. He is possibly the most dangerous person on the list. He has never been seen, and this name may be an alias. The Watch issued this notice because of many incidents where this name has been found carved into an emptied cart surrounded by dead guards. Hawa only attacks small groups, and that only rarely. The Watch believes he works alone, though he may be an alias for a band of brigands.

The Hawa Travert mark has been found on carts along Miller's Road, Ring's Road, and (most recently) the Valley Road. There is generally a multiple-month lull between attacks; the longest lull has been over a year. Hawa Travert has killed to a man the only search party sent out for him (6 Violetford soldiers). Hawa Travert has been operating for nearly a decade.

The following is part of Aida's interrogation of Hawa Travert.

Carol TODO: Clean this up and reformat into the Conspiracy Weary page. Re-do this page with just the facts.

Hawa stares off at the wall, unmoving, for a long moment, and you think that he's going to continue to be unresponsive. Then, very slowly, you see a shaking hand reach out for the pen. He grabs it in his fist and slowly, deliberately scratches something onto the paper, tearing it in a few places from the force of his writing. It looks like "How(scribble) Travrt(scribble)."
Aida gets another writing implement and writes on the paper YES with a box around it NO with a box around it I DON'T KNOW with a box around it STOP with a box around it
"I'm going to ask you some questions. If you want to answer them, point to one of these boxes for your answer."
Christopher Ellison Still gripping the quill in his fist, he shakily slams it down on YES
Do you know who I am?
Christopher Ellison YES
Do you know my name?
Christopher Ellison YES
did he hesitate?
chris says no
I need to ask you some questions that could be difficult to answer. Please use the STOP box (she points) if you want this conversation to stop. Do you understand?
Christopher Ellison Hesitation, then YES
does he have any visible outward indications when he hesitates that he is thinking? or just unblinking no emotions what soever the whole tme?
Christopher Ellison Unblinking, no emotions on face, but his hand is very shaky
okay.
"We know that you and others have been forcefully controlled by something other than yourself for a long while. I have brokered this deal with the Watch (explains how crimes while wormed will work). I want you to know we know you weren't responsible. Please try to make peace with whatever was done. I need you to consider that before we move forward."
(She's trying to lay the groundwork so hopefully he doesn't freak out having to remember this stuff.)
Did you understand what I said?
Christopher Ellison Hesitation, then YES
"Okay. We are alone and no sound leaves these walls. There's no gentle way for me to say this: I have discovered that you can change into a bear. I have not told anyone this. Are you able to control whether or not you turn into a bear, or is it a change fueled by emotions/situations/etc?"
"My concern is I don't want to upset you with my questions and possibly upset you"
Carol: Strike the is it a change fuled by etc.
Christopher Ellison "Are you able to control…?" NO
"Okay. Do you get some sort of mental warning before it happens?"
Christopher Ellison YES
"Is there a known thing that triggers the change?"
Wait rephrase; "Do you know what triggers the change?"
Christopher Ellison YES
"Is it possible for my questions to trigger the change?"
Christopher Ellison YES
(That response was the fastest youv'e seen, and the nib of the pen dug a furrow into the wood of the table through the paper)
"Are we in danger now of this happening? I don't want to cause the change."
Christopher Ellison YES
"Do you need me to stop?"
Christopher Ellison NO
No
(He hit it twice)
"Will the change be triggered if I talk about events or knowledge you have about changing into a bear?"
Christopher Ellison NO
DON'T KNOW
Take that back from Chris
okay
"Will the change be triggered if I ask about your life as a child?"
wait
Aida doesn't ask that.
Aida asks: "Would it be okay if I left for a moment? I will return shortly."
Christopher Ellison YES

Aida searches the Book of a Thousand pages for information on shape-shifters
Christopher Ellison Hmm. You'd find a few mentions of the druids
Does Aida find anything that can help?
Christopher Ellison You'd find enough to know that Hawa Travert's situation is something odd that isn't druidic in nature.
Aida searches The Book of a Thousand Pages for information on wild magic
Christopher Ellison There's no information specifically about that in the Book
More statements to be written in the book:
There is one entity responsible for granting Hawa bear shape
Christopher Ellison True
That entity is the Usuruper
Christopher Ellison Trurure
Fuckck
The Usurper itself directly granted Hawa bear shape
Christopher Ellison True
Hawa had direct contact with the Usurper itself
Christopher Ellison False
Chris says for the purpose of this magical stuff the Usurper and its constructs/worms are the same entity. But I am correct also in saying Hawa has never been to the underground prison spot.
One of the de-wormed is the entity who gave Hawa bear shape
Christopher Ellison False
The entity (separate from the actual Usurper) that gave Hawa bear shape still exists

[Aida goes back in to Hawa. She explains that she has a friend who is a druid and thinks he can help Hawa control his bear shape. Does he want Aida to bring her friend in with her?]
Chris says vehemently YES
[Aida goes to Donal and explains that she needs everything she's about to say kept in strict confidence. Can he agree to that before proceeding?]
Chris: Donal says he is good at holding secrets; he agrees
[Aida explains what she has discovered about Hawa and that he has agreed to let Donal in with Aida in the questioning tent in the hopes that Donal can offer aid to Hawa gaining control of the shifting]
Chris says someone maybe Mal's divinations revealed that Hawa is still very dangerous. Aida thinks that has to do with his uncontrollable bear shifting. Also casting read thoughts type spells or any mental spells on Hawa would be very dangerous as well.
So Aida reveals that to Donal so as to avoid any spellcasting. We're going to have to go slow.
Aida's supicious that perhaps Hawa is partially a bear right now. Either deworming took something of him away or the worm was helping control things or maybe the traumatic act of being dewormed caused something in him to partially shapshift. Aida realizes bears can't talk and it seems as though HAwa is struggling for enough control to move the writing implement around to the YES NO boxes.
She relays all of this to Donal and asks for input
Aida thinks perhaps Donal has physiological knowledge of how shifting works; maybe speech centers are affected first, for instance, rendering a shifter unable to vocally communicate as soon as they start shifting. Either way Donal is the best bet she has right now for insight and help and the book said he could help Hawa figure out hwo to control his bear shape
Christopher Ellison Donal, upon dealing with Hawa: "I've seen something like this before. One of my friends, in the rebels… he watched a lot of his friends die at the hands of one of these worms. He nearly died himself, barely made it away to warn us. He was locked up like this for weeks afterward. It took our healers a lot of time and effort to calm him down and help him get over the trauma. I'd wager that Hawa, whoever he is, is going through something much like that, only more intense. Perhaps if we laid in some very powerful wards on the medical tent, healing and calming wards, that might help him."
Aida is also asking the watch to let her handle this alone for now. He's catatonic and Aida thinks she should try to get him talking before sending in anyone else to do interrogation
Aida: "Do you think we can do this without arousing suspicion from the ranks? Could we disguise the wards and rituals or whatnot to be kind of run-of-the-mill stuff, enchantments meant to heal him in the hopes of letting him communicate again? Until he can control his shape I would prefer as few people know about this as possible."
Christopher Ellison "It's possible. At least the higher-ups know that he's dangerous, and they're likely the ones we'd need for the wards. If we relied on them… it might take a week or two to research the specifics, then another few days to cast them, but we could at least set it up to happen out of the view of most of the men, I think. We'd have to rely on the discretion of at least a few master priests and masterwizards, though."
"Do you find them trustworthy? Would they be sympathetic, knowing how out of control he is and how he suffers for it?"
Christopher Ellison "Some, certainly. I'm not sure about Bryn. She seems the type to happily go back on her word should she decide that to be the better thing to do. And Margaretha has her own sins to atone for, so I don't know how much we can trust her entirely. But they've seemed to be focused on the good of the Isle…."
"Can we do it without them?"
Christopher Ellison "I couldn't. Well, perhaps I could, but it would take considerably longer. I'd wager Esme and Maleos would say the same."
