Should Never Have Senate

Prologue

The campaign begins in the Senate offices on Coruscant, where we follow the fall of a young Senator from a mildly influential mid-Rim planet.

Senator Tyree

Senator Venn Tyree, the junior Senator from Antaras, has been secretly passing information to the Rebel Alliance for a few years. He started small, passing inconsequential bits of information as he heard it, and has been slowly building trust with his Rebel contacts on Coruscant. As both his trustworthiness and his influence as a Senator have increased, Venn has wored to pass more and more critical information to the Alliance. As a result of his taking ever greater risks and the increased scrutiny on his actions as a voice of opposition, he has (unbeknownst to him) been tagged as a possible spy just before the campaign starts.

Private Minera

Venn surrounds himself with Senatorial Guards he believes can be turned to the cause of the Rebellion. His Guard captain, an experienced soldier and lawman by the name of Sebastian Fell, recently brought a young Guard by the name of Tam Minera into the conspiracy. Tam has been serving as a guard for the Senator for a while, nearly a year, and was inducted into the fringes of the conspirators' plans only a month or two before the start of the campaign. As a result, Tam knows little or nothing about the specifics of Venn's traitorous activities, but he is trusted enough to guard the Senator whenever said activities are undertaken.

Kane Novallis

Meanwhile, a young Rebel sympathizer by the name of Kane Novallis has just been assigned the most exciting mission of his career so far. A former transport captain, Novallis had his ship repossessed years ago for non-payment of taxes and illegal traffic in controlled materiel. After emptying his accounts as a bribe to avoid sentence on a prison planet, Kane drifted for a short while before falling in with the Rebel Alliance. Though he never officially signed on, Kane has been assisting the Rebellion as an infantryman for a while, all the while trying to get himself a new ship one way or another. Just before the campaign starts, Kane is assigned to pilot an old, battered, but ostensibly luxury yacht to Coruscant as the pilot for a "diplomatic mission from the Bilbringi system."

The "diplomat" in question is pretending to represent Bilbringi, lobbying for additional military resources to defend the shipyards there from pirate and Rebel attacks. Truly, however, the diplomat is working for the Rebellion to deliver a data packet (a carefully-crafted virus) to the senator to be slotted into the Senatorial secure computers. The Rebels have discovered that the Empire has collected new data that, when properly analyzed, will reveal the location of a Rebel starfighter base hidden amongst the asteroids of the Bilbringi system. The virus will tweak some data, misdirecting the Imperials to a different asteroid field where they will discover nothing. Venn just needs to accept, deliver, and sign off on the data as being from a duly-appointed Imperial source, and he needs to do so from a Senate terminal so that the virus can't be easily traced back to him if the tampering is discovered.

Kane will pilot the diplomat and his bodyguard from Bilbringi to Coruscant and serve as an additional bodyguard while there. If all goes according to plan, the group will meet with the Senator in his chambers to deliver the packet, then leave without incident. The Senator will then take the data to the Senate and deliver it into the Imperial system via the standard protocols.

Welcome to Coruscant

  1. Kane and crew arrive on Coruscant
  2. Initial meeting with Senator Tyree and coded exchange
  3. Idle chitchat about diplomatic matters for a while
  4. Moved to super-fancy hotel to wait

The "diplomatic mission" is delivering a data packet (a carefully-crafted virus) to the senator to be slotted into the standard vetted data collection stuff. The virus will tweak some data that the Imperials have collected but have not yet analyzed - this data would reveal the location of a Rebel base, and the tweak will misdirect the Imperials. Venn just needs to accept, deliver, and sign off on the data as being from a duly-appointed Imperial source, and he needs to do so from a Senate terminal so that the virus can't be easily traced back to him if the tampering is discovered. Kane and the courier he is escorting, if all goes according to plan, will meet with the Senator in his chambers to deliver the packet, then leave without incident. The Senator will then take the data to the Senate and deliver it into the Imperial system via the standard protocols.
