Dynamic-class Freighter

Dynamic-class freighters are bespoke freighters built by a subsidiary of Core Galaxy Systems. As a result, they are generally rare compared to most freighters in this size range. However, their bespoke nature meant that many varieties with specialized interior layouts were available, albeit at a high price.

Dynamic-class freighters are very new; as a result, their long-term service characteristics are not fully understood. However, initial information points to them being a very rugged and reliable class of ship for those willing to pay the extra cost.

More information on the Dynamic-class is available on Wookiepedia.

YT-2400 Light Freighter

The YT-2400 is a Corellian Engineering Corporation light freighter similar in design to the YT-1300 (itself famous for being the base model for the Millennium Falcon). The YT-2400, however, is slightly smaller and more heavily armored than the YT-1300, in addition to being a newer design.

The YT-2400 is slightly more compact than the more famous YT-1300, but it can hold nearly as much cargo and is nearly as smuggler-modifiable.

Optional Rule: YT-1000-series

Original Author’s Note: I liked the Galaxy Guide 6; Tramp Freighters 2nd edition, but I did not like the faults in the ship modification system, which means that you cannot upgrade your stock YT-1300 to the same standard as the Millenium Falcon. This is my answer to that problem, and also a way to get one heck of a ship, based on the YT-1432R model. See below for explanation of the numbers.

The YT-Series is reliable, durable and modifable - hence its popularity. There are three standard models, from the basic 1200 to the standard 1300 and, finally, the deluxe model, the 1400.

Major Models

The 1200-series lacks the bow mandibles but instead has a small boom extension forward. However, this means that it cannot take as much extra equipment due to space limitations.

Cargo Capacity: 80 tons

The 1300-series has the trademark most people associate with the YT-series, namely the bow mandibles.
Length: 26.7 Meters
Cargo Capacity: 100 tons

The 1400-series is basically a 1300-series with the empty space between the bow mandibles filled with a cargo hold. This hold is configured to take maximum 60 ton of extra cargo.
Length: 30.6 Meters
Cargo Capacity: 160 Ton

Minor Models

The three models can be configured during construction to different types of standard regarding their maneuverability, hull rating, and the placement of the command pod. These modifications to the basic design do not warrant any mishap modifiers since the ships are built to take them as standard.

Command Pod Placement

  • xx1x means that the ship has its command pod on the starboard side
  • xx2x means it is placed on the port side.
  • xx3x means that the vessel has pods on both sides.

For xx3x minor models, both pods are not used to control the ship. Instead, the second pod mostly used to house powerful sensors, additional passenger space, or equipment/cargo up to 10 tons in weight.

  • xxx0 means that the ship has a standard maneuverability of 0D.
  • xxx1 means that the ship is built to withstand a maneuverability of 1D.
  • xxx2 means that the ship is built to withstand a maneuverability of 2D.

Hull Rating

A special offer is the upgrading of the ships hull by two pips, giving a standard hull rating of 4D+2. Those ships who have this modification carry the suffix -R for Reinforced, for example, YT-1300R. The replacement of the standard systems with improved ones does not change the model number, which means that there are countless variations of these three models out in the galaxy. People do not usually call their ships by the complete major/minor model number; instead, they generally refer only to the major model in conversation. This means that Han Solo's YT-1300, the famous Millenium Falcon, is really a YT-1312R, albeit very heavily modified….
